Finally! A Brownie Recipe That I Love!

February 17, 2015 by abbie 1,107 Comments

I'm 37 years old. I've been baking solo for about 30 years....since I could pull a barstool up to the counter and get permission to use the oven. Baking is my thing. I could bake all the live-long day. Cookies, pies, cakes of all kinds....no problem. But when it came to brownies, I never found a recipe that I loved. They were all dry, crunchy, or bland. I wanted soft, fudgy, chewy, make-your-tummy-hurt-because-you-ate-too-many-with-too-much-milk brownies. So I used storebought … [Read more...]

Nanny’s Brown Sugar Cookies

January 18, 2015 by abbie 1,613 Comments

Meet Nanny and Daddoo, my great-grandparents. Daddoo had a mind like a steel trap, could tell stories like you wouldn't believe, and was always up for a good laugh. Nanny had a soft, gentle voice and skin like velvet. She always smelled like dusting powder and hugged like nobody's business. (Man, I wish that photo weren't so damaged.) I have a cookbook with a few of her recipes in it. It's one of those small town, fundraising cookbooks. If you know them, you love … [Read more...]

Super Duper Blueberry Muffins

April 29, 2011 by abbie 235 Comments

I toyed around with a blueberry muffin recipe this morning and attempted to pack them full of good-for-you ingredients.  The kids could barely stand the wait while they smelled them baking, so as soon as the muffins reached a somewhat-edible temperature, they began scarfing them down. Elliott declared them "super duper good". Alex said, "Most awesome blueberry muffins ever!" And me? I'm in awe of the fact that I just baked the first muffin that I didn't feel the need to spread … [Read more...]

October 29, 2010 by abbie 4,671 Comments

Hello! After months of being an absentee blogger, I'm back.  I want to thank all of you who sent emails to check on me and to remind me that I'm loved.  You all are so kind! Love you to pieces. So, let's get to business.  For my first post-hiatus trick, I give you......Bad MoFos*! Bad MoFos are kind of a hybrid recipe I came up with.  I started with my favorite cookie recipe and tried to turn it into a cross between a cookie and a granola bar.  See, during my absence, Shayne and I have … [Read more...]

Recipes I need to share

August 8, 2009 by abbie 1,947 Comments

Not too long ago, I went on a mission to try to replicate a recipe I had in NYC at an amazing Italian restaurant.  I was successful in creating something incredibly similar and was getting ready to share it here on my blog, when all of a sudden, Pioneer Woman launched a new recipe site, TastyKitchen.  I decided to post the recipe on there and have gotten great feedback!  Please treat yourself to one of the most delicious pasta dishes I have ever tried (if I do say so myself). It's a white … [Read more...]
