I'm no pro, but I really, really enjoy decorating cutout cookies. I only do it a couple of times a year, but that might change in '15, because it's just s'darn fun. Once we declare Christmas break around here, all I want to do is bake, knit, and watch Christmas movies by the fire. Speaking of knitting, I swear that it has really upped my patience level and steadied my hands some. That certainly helps in decorating cookies! Scroll quickly through these photos and cross your eyes a little … [Read more...]
Just a Few Colorado Photos
I am a bad, bad blogger. Forgive me. Or don't. It's cool. Two months after our Colorado trip, I finally dumped the photos onto my computer. I've barely begun to sort and edit all the ones I love, but who really wants to see 300 vacation pictures, right? Keep in mind 3 things when looking at these. I'm very, very rusty with photography and editing. One of my lenses took a fatal fall. The other lens I had with me quit autofocusing the day after we got to CO, so I had to get used to … [Read more...]

Moving Beyond the Page: Ages 11-13 Overview Video (UPDATE AT BOTTOM)
I've talked before about how much the kids and I love the Moving Beyond the Page homeschool curriculum. While some curricula are so workload heavy that they eat up your time leaving you miserably over-scheduled and less than thrilled about what your children are actually learning, MBTP keeps learning fun. Each lesson is a very reasonable length and most include some type of hands-on activity that keep the kids engaged and excited about what they're learning. My kids have walked away from these … [Read more...]
Homeschool Wish List Ideas
They're out there. The school supplies. The sales. The back-to-school frenzy that excites and/or overwhelms every parent. For me, it's 99% excitement. I have mad, mad love for school supplies of all kinds. When stores start stocking their back-to-school section, I become flat-out giddy. It started with kindergarten 30-something years ago and that love has only grown. Each year, I waited with great anticipation for the day my mom would take me on that special school-shopping trip. It … [Read more...]
News on Release of Minecraft for Xbox One!
Oh my goodness. We got the Xbox One for Christmas last year and from that day forward, my kids have been stalking IGN, Twitter, all kinds of forums, an the sweet guys at our favorite GameStop location for any hint at a release date for Minecraft. It's been a long wait and finally there is news! This morning, 4J Studios tweeted this: The Xbox One version will be released on "an unspecified date" in August. Joy! The wait is almost over! As a parent, I will state right now that after … [Read more...]
Soft Foods to Eat After Dental Surgery & Tooth Extraction
We have probably all experienced at some point the need to eat soft food for days (or even weeks) after some type of procedure. Of course, we're always told to eat Jell-O™, ice cream, milkshakes (without the straw!), broth, etc. Boring! Especially boring if you're not really an ice cream person! I've been going through a series of dental procedures at Dischinger Orthodontics for awhile. Extraction, fillings, root canals, bone grafts, implants, and on and on. I've still got quite a few … [Read more...]

Holiday Knitting
Tomorrow is the first day of July. The first day of the second half of the year. Tick tock. It's time to start planning and working on handmade holiday gifts already. I'm so great at planning ahead and getting everything made way, way ahead of time! No. Not really. I'm a last minute gal no matter how early I start. But. But. If I do one here and there, it's got to help relieve stress six months from now, right? Let's do it. Together. Let's get started. Okay? This … [Read more...]
Yoga for Sciatica
Sciatica. It hurts, but mostly it's an inconvenience, right? I need to be doing XYZ, but instead I'm gulping down ibuprofen and trying ice, heat, whatever only to get zero relief. So frustrating! Ten years ago when I herniated a disc in my lower back, the doc told me that at some point I would probably experience sciatica. I'm so fortunate that it waited a decade to get me to the point of...of...this: It went on for several days this week without letting up one bit no matter what I … [Read more...]
