Heating Pad Cover Tutorial

June 8, 2016 by abbie 1,626 Comments

Since I created my original Heating Pad Tutorial, people have commented and emailed asking if I had suggestions for a cover to slip over the heating pad. A cover that could easily be removed and washed was in high demand! I brainstormed several different designs but decided that simplicity is best! You can sew this up in minutes...easy peasy. It's easy to take on and off the heating pad but stays in place when in use. So here it is...the official Green Wife heating pad cover: What … [Read more...]

Chewbacca Chocolate Bar Party Favors

January 4, 2016 by abbie 1,780 Comments

Elliott is turning 9! She's requested a Chewbacca cake, so I decided to make some Chewbacca party favors as well. I'm always looking for an alternative to the usual goody bags, so I wandered craft stores and dollar stores while I brainstormed. Eventually, I decided simple is always best. Other ideas would have been more expensive and far more time consuming. These guys came together in no time and are guaranteed to thrill the birthday girl and her friends. Supplies: Craft … [Read more...]

K’NEX Mighty Makers

September 3, 2015 by abbie 1,108 Comments

Yay! I was selected to be a brand ambassador for K'NEX this year. What does that mean? It means that they send our family products to use and review. All opinions regarding the products are my own. What they sent this week was the Mighty Makers Deep Sea Dive set. Mighty Makers is their new line they've created in an effort to increase young girls' interest in building sets. My initial reaction to a new line of products "girl colors" wasn't entirely positive, to be honest. I mean, the whole … [Read more...]

Homeschool Supplies That You Won’t Find on Most Lists

August 14, 2015 by abbie 959 Comments

We're going into our 6th year of homeschooling. During the first five years, I've learned that a lot of supplies we need aren't usually found on the back-to-school aisles at your favorite store. These unconventional supplies end up being the ones that create the projects and learning experiences that really make the kiddos' eyes light up and their gears go into overdrive. Thought I'd share some of the more unconventional supplies that I've learned to keep on hand based on science … [Read more...]

To start getting us in gear for another great year, I've been cleaning out, organizing, and rearranging our homeschool stuff. Now it's time to order our favorite curriculum and stock up on supplies! Which map doesn't belong? ;) … [Read more...]

Test Knitting—The Palette Shawl

June 27, 2015 by abbie 668 Comments

A few months ago, I had my very first test-knitting experience. If you're not familiar with the concepts, it's when a pattern designer someone knit a brand new, unpublished pattern to check for typos or mistakes in the design itself. When Chandi of Expression Fiber Arts told me she'd chosen me to test knit for her, I was pretty excited. The number of people that had applied to test knit for her was pretty sizable and, well, I'm a bit of a EFA fangirl. I mean, I really, really … [Read more...]

Grow Beautiful Plants — Even if You Don’t Have a Green Thumb

May 12, 2015 by abbie 556 Comments

I've been playing in the dirt a lot lately. There's nothing that brings me satisfaction and peace like digging and planting. Until recently I've never been great at keeping plants alive, unfortunately, with the exception of vegetable gardens planted in rainy years. Living in North Texas near the Oklahoma border has put our town dead-smack in the center of what's called an "exceptional drought". The past 5 years have been horribly dry to the point that our combined lake level was barely … [Read more...]

Dear Parents of Little Ones, It Doesn’t Get Easier

April 1, 2015 by abbie 989 Comments

I'd pace in circles for hours on end trying desperately to sooth my colicky baby, and I'd comfort myself, too, by telling myself that this time would pass quickly. I'd tell myself that in just a few years, she'd be independent and happy. That the hard part of parenting would be over. As I'd change blown-out diapers at 2am with eyes barely cracked open, I'd tell myself that this exhausting phase of parenting would end before I knew it and life would be smooth sailing. When my toddlers would … [Read more...]

Online Yoga Classes Save My Sanity…and My Back (Giveaway!)

March 24, 2015 by abbie 152 Comments

a Rafflecopter giveaway I prefer to do yoga in the privacy of my own home. There. I said it. When I do online classes at home, I can close my door, light incense, take a few minutes on my mat to just be before I press play. I'm not worried about whether I accidentally grabbed my "home" yoga pants. You know...the ones with the little hole in the crotch that would be hugely humiliating when doing down dog in the front row. Nope. Perfectly safe in my ragged, favorite pants in the … [Read more...]
