Yay! I was selected to be a brand ambassador for K’NEX this year. What does that mean? It means that they send our family products to use and review. All opinions regarding the products are my own.
What they sent this week was the Mighty Makers Deep Sea Dive set. Mighty Makers is their new line they’ve created in an effort to increase young girls’ interest in building sets. My initial reaction to a new line of products “girl colors” wasn’t entirely positive, to be honest. I mean, the whole gender-specific-toy issue is one that can frustrate a lot of people, including my daughter who is not a lover of pink and gets generally disgruntled about “girl” toys being marketed in the typical way. Until we received this particular set, my daughter Elliott had no issues building with K’NEX sets in primary colors. Imagine that, right?
However….she really got excited about this set! The set design, box, and -yes- the colors appealed to her. Coincidentally, she’s been watching documentaries lately about sea creatures and learning about marine biology. This set and the timing of its arrival could not have been better! She thinks she might even pursue marine biology as she gets older and this kind of just reinforced that. Chalk up a point for Mighty Makers!
She busted right in, sorted pieces (that’s my girl!), and got busy building.
She adored the little diver and fish.
She snacked on veggies as she worked happily and (yay!) quietly. Feed your body, feed your mind.
Before long, she was finishing up the bottom “ocean” part.
Working on the boat was more detailed and I think she enjoyed it immensely.
She was thrilled with the completed scene and looks forward to building the other two options that are part of this set. That will be another happy afternoon for my future marine biologist!
