Shoo Rayner has no idea who I am. This is not a promotional post. I’m just sharing one way we do homeschool art lessons for free. Mr. Rayner, if you happen upon this post, well….hello and thank you for your wonderful videos!
When I give my kids free-school time, they have the opportunity to choose something creative, productive, and educational to pass the time. They can choose between a documentary on Netflix, a book of (just about) any type, or some crafting/creating time.
More and more often, they grab their sketch pads and pencil pouches and start drawing.
To further encourage this interest in drawing, I’ve introduced them to Shoo Rayner’s YouTube channel. He is an author and illustrator with dozens of videos dedicated to teaching people to draw all kinds of things. He has a charm and sense of humor that makes his teaching really appeal to children and I enjoy his teaching style very much.
As a homeschooler, I adore using his videos as art lessons…for free! You can’t beat that, right?
Oh, wait. Maybe you can. He’s going to start offering a high school half-credit online drawing course in August of this year. Fantastic! Can’t wait to get all of my kids started on that!
I thought I’d share a few of my favorite Shoo Rayner videos to get you started, but I know you’ll love digging through his playlists and videos to find just the right ones for your homeschooling children…and maybe for yourself.
As a Doctor Who fan, Alex loved this Dalek video.
With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, we’ve decided to give this “Impossible Heart” video a try.
I can’t resist this teddy bear one.
And zombies. Oh, I love zombies.
We really enjoyed this one-point perspective video, too.
There’s just so many to choose from that you’ll never have a shortage of art lessons ready for your kids with just a few clicks.
Today, my kids decided to go with puppies and kittens for a super quick pic. They’re still in there drawing and drawing and drawing…
