I have gotten so behind on blogging that it’s embarrassing, but hopefully I can rekindle the blog flame.
This afternoon I was out weeding my garden (which is coming along so nicely, by the way) and I got to witness the interaction between a meddlesome cat and a mockingbird protecting its nest. I can’t help but laugh every time I get to see this go down. The cat is all cool and minding his cat business when suddenly there’s a mean ol’ mockingbird swooping down and screaming at the cat to stay away from those birdie babies! Man, they can get vicious and man, is it funny to watch a cat run, jump and twist away from that angry bird. Joke’s on the bird though, because this same cat took another mockingbird out of midair the other day. I didn’t witness it, but my neighbor tells me that one second the bird is swooping and putting on its mean act and the next….the cat is having dinner. Man, do I love nature.
I had the opportunity while I was in the garden to get to know my neighbors’ daughter, who is about my age. Turns out we have a whole lot of things in common and it was so refreshing to find someone so close to home with the same outlook on so many things. Who would have guessed a new friend was right here under my nose for the past 9 months. We both breastfeed past a year, have co-slept with our babies, cloth diapered our babies, wear our babies….it goes on and on. As rarely as I get out and meet people, it was just really fun to find a friend right next door.
We continued our outdoor day with cooking out. Shayne and I are one mean burger-makin’ team. Tonight’s burgers were possibly some of the best I’ve ever tasted! Yay us!
I’m sad that the truly enjoyable weather is almost gone. We’re supposed to hit 100 degrees on Monday and stay in mid to upper 90s the rest of the week. Welcome, summer. I look forward to you baking my grass dry as a bone, killing my garden and making my car seats capable of 3rd degree burns!
